What is the Most Masculine Name for My German Sheperd Dog?

I always go with car names, or celebrity names.

My first dog is a girl but I named her Diesel, after Vin Diesel. And my 2nd dog is a girl as well and her name is Hummer after the car.

What is the Most Masculine Name for My German Sheperd Dog?

Is Hitler a common German family name?

or only Adolf Hitler's family has this name?

Is Hitler a common German family name?
I don't think it's extremely common though there are German family names that sound similar. Most of Hitler's family legally changed their names. Some even moved moved to the United States after WWII. As you can imagine, many members of his family had no desire to have children and continue the genes.
Reply:Not anymore. Hitler had no direct heirs. I think he had a half sister.

There was a program on TV not too long ago and his nephew came to the States, wrote a book and denounced his uncle.

Of that blood line, it's dying out and the people in this line appear to not want to reproduce because of their dark history.

The surviving members of Hitler's extended family changed their surnames to unknown and I believe some live in the United States. Not sure on the last one.

But, the where abouts of what's left of them is largely a secret and they don't want anyone to know who they are, where they are and want to be left alone.

BTW, Mein Kampf is still in print and if you wonder who gets the royalty money from the sales of this book it's the state of Bavaria. Interestingly enough, this book is largely pirated in one part of the world and that's the gulf reagon.
Reply:I heard once that most of the Hitler's immediate family emigrated to the US and changed their names. I also remember hearing that they made a pact not to have children so that the family line would end? This could be complete nonsense though.
Reply:It was never particularly common, and I'm sure by now it's pretty much extinct.
Reply:hitler wasn't german he was born in austria
Reply:even if it was it probably isn't now!

What was the Name of the German, Army, Navy and Air-force, during WWII?...?

Also, do you know, the German Army, Navy, and Air-force Commanders, who Lead them?...

What was the Name of the German, Army, Navy and Air-force, during WWII?...?
The Name of the german army during WWII was Wehrmacht. Army in this case translat with Armee. Wehrmacht = Armee. Armee = Heer, Kriegsmarine und Lufrwaffe.

The Wehrmacht was divied in the army, navy and air force. The german translation is Heer (army), Kriegsmarine (navy) and Luftwaffe (airforce). But a soldier of the Heer was a member of the Wehrmacht as same as a soldier of the navy or airforce. Therefore the highest leader of the Wehrmacht was Adolf Hitler. So Hitler was the highest leader of the Heer, Kriegsmarine and Luftwaffe aswell. The particular chief of Heer, Kriegsmarine and Luftwaffe changed during the war. To name 2 for the Kriegsmarine, Erich Raeder and Karl D枚nitz. For Luftwaffe i guess it was Hermann G枚ring from beginning to the end in 1945. From the Heer there are many. Check this out in wikipedia :) A different views exist about the Waffen-SS. Soldiers of the Waffen-SS made a lot of war crimes and tough the units of the Waffen-SS saw very often combat and a lot of SS-Soldiers got kiled in action, it was no part of the Wehrmacht, but because they fought along with the Wehrmacht and helped the units of the Wehrmacht often in dangerous times, some tend to agree to accept the SS-Soldiers "as soldiers like every soldiers too". By the way the system with Wehrmacht -Army, Navy and Luftwaffe is the same system for the Bundeswehr today. Bundeswehr is made of the Heer, Airforce and federal navy.
Reply:The main army was the Wehrmacht, and was headed by the OKW and OKH. Ostensibly the OKH was subordinate to the OKW but the situation after 1941 more or less had the OKW taking command in the west and the OKH heading up things in the east. Command of the OKW was headed up by Keitel, but the real power rested with Hitler. The OKH had several men heading it up, the last being Hans Krebs.

The army situation was further complicated with the addition of Waffen-SS units, ostensibly under the control of Himmler and by association Hitler.

There was also an OKM (navy) and OKL (airforce) but most people simply know them as the kriegsmarine and luftwaffe. The navy was headed up first by admiral Raeder then admiral Donitz. The airforce was exclusively the pet project of Goering.
Reply:Kriegsmarine for navy

Luftwaffe for airforce

Wehrmact for Army

Reply:The political/military arm of the Nazi Party was the Waffen SS (the Storm Troopers).

The Waffen SS had nothing to do with the German Army or military in general.
Reply:Army-- Wehrmacht or Heer

Navy-- Kriegsmarine

Air Force-- Luftwaffe

The leadership of these corps changed, depending on the whims and tantrums of "Der Fuhrer."
Reply:Hermann Goering was in charge of the military in general, Goebbels of the SS.

What does the german last name Baumer mean?

I was just curious to know a little more about my last name.I know that a Baum is some sort of tree but how does that cue into the last name Baumer

What does the german last name Baumer mean?
eehh I don't quite agree with jake. Yes, Baum means tree, but Baumer does not mean "off the trees" I don't think. I don't speak yiddish, that could be why we disagree. But in Hochdeutsch Baumer is just a name, a variation of Baum that has no own meaning.
Reply:Meanings:

- dwelling/habitation/origin: living on a place called ...-baum; like Altbaum, Karsbaum, Oberbirnbaum, Wierzebaum, and so on.

- profession/occupation: working on a toll bar/turnpike (Schlagbaum); to plant fruit trees (Obstbaum)

Reply:Baum is yiddish/german for tree, Baumer means "of the trees"

The Condor Legion was the name of the German air force?
Hello,

From what I see, they were just called the La Bandera Irlandesa. The Irish politician Eoin O'Duffy, who had previously organised the banned quasi-fascist Blueshirts and Greenshirts, organised an Irish Brigade to fight for Franco in the Spanish Civil War.

Cheers,

Michael Kelly

How popular is the name Lorelei in German-Speaking Countries?

The name Lorelei seems to be gaining a little more popularity in the U.S. lately, especially with the success of the "Gilmore Girls." Is this a popular name in Germany, Austria or other German-speaking countries? I know it has negative associations with Sirens, so I'm wondering how those from the country it originated from, perceive this name. Is it looked on negatively or not? Also, what is the most popular spelling - Loralei or Lorelei?

How popular is the name Lorelei in German-Speaking Countries?
The correct spelling is "Loreley". I am German and we do not use this name at all. It is just a name of a legend fromt he 19th century. I guess it would be similar like e. g. Lancelot. It is a name but you would not name your child Lancelot. This is how it is in Germany. It is possible, but I have never ever met anyone with that name.

The name comes frmo a German Romantic poem (based on a legend), but its not a name used at all. I assume the TV show name was meant to show that Lorelei's parents were familiar with te poem from which it comes (very famous in German, less so in English).

How did the German Shepherd Dog get its name?

Hi. I have a speech to write about German Shepherds, and I would really like if you can tell me a bit about german shepherds, and how they got their name. Thanx!

How did the German Shepherd Dog get its name?
The breed was named Deutscher Sch盲ferhund by Von Stephanitz, literally translating to "German Shepherd Dog". The breed was so named due its original purpose of assisting shepherds in herding and protecting sheep.
Reply:Answered something similar a couple of days ago on YA.

This will give you a little extra tit bit.

It is also known as an Alsatian. The name was changed in WW2 because many found the word German offensive. It never really stuck though and the breed is known as German Shepherd Dog in the show world and registering bodies.

What does the last name Huwieler mean in German?

There's an alternative spelling of Huweieler if that makes a difference. And also, where does it come from?

What does the last name Huwieler mean in German?
Huwiler is of Alemanian-German origin. Family name from Switzerland. Referring to somebody from a village of Huwil. Wil meaning, specifically, to be a little hamlet (Weiler in High German) and quite frequent in town names in Switzerland.
Reply:I can't find anything for that name but it turns out that there is a more common spelling of that name in Germany. It's Huwiler. There are quite a few people with that last name.

It is definitely not Modern German. And I think it comes more from the Southern German regions or Switzerland
Reply:It's just a last name...can't be translated or has no other meaning.

How would u say or write ma name in German?

ma name is Liz. i think u say it and write it da same way but im not sure!!!

How would u say or write ma name in German?
Because English and German both use to the same alphabet, you could just keep your name the way it is. A German would likely pronounce Liz as "lits", so be prepared for that.

If you'd like to come up with something similar, but more German sounding, you could go with any of the following:

Lies (pronounced "lees")

Lisa, Liesa, or Liesa (pronounced "LEE-zuh")--probably the most common of the bunch

Liesel (pronounced "LEE-zuhl")--kind of old-fashioned

Reply:You might want to pick the dog before you pick the name. Once you pick the dog and have it for a couple days you'll have a better idea of how it behaves. You will know whether to call it for example: Diablo or Duke; Queenie or Hera. If the dog comes off more like a hurricane than a laid back mellow animal you might want to consider that before naming it.

How do you pronounce the German name"Udo?"?

It is a man's name.

How do you pronounce the German name"Udo?"?
UDO.

A very ugly name, I think. German has a very easy pronunciation, the problem is the grammar
Reply:You can say "OO-doh", which the other respondents have suggested, and which really is pretty close.

However, if you are a native English speaker, you'll probably make the mistake of closing the second syllable on a "w" sound, because that's what "o" ends in in the English language. Say "bow" or "show" or "toe" out loud slowly a few times, and you will realize that there are really two vowel sounds there. Drop the second one (easier said than done, I know), and your " OO-do' " will be perfect.
Reply:Ooh - doh (Higher pitch on the ooh)

Like, 'ooh, pretty flowers!' and doh, like.. how it looks.

What was the name of German division at Stalingrad ?

that was defending " the nose " of " der kessel " ?

What was the name of German division at Stalingrad ?
If "the nose" means the "Marinovka Nose” within "the Cauldron" ...

The German division in your question might be either: -

[a] 29th Motorized Infantry division (nicknamed the "Falcon Division" on account of its emblem); or,

[b] 376th Infantry division; or,

[c] elements of 3rd Motorized Infantry division.

All three divisions were involved in defending the Marinovka Nose sector of the Cauldron once 6th Army was encircled.

All three were effectively eliminated by mid-January, 1943; but some reports show that 3rd and 29th Motorized were still resisting very strongly as late as January 12th.

What was the name of the German soldiers recruited by King George of England during the Revolutionary War?

They were called Hessians, because the majority of them hailed from one of the many Germanies, the little associated principalities, called something-Hesse.

What was the name of the German soldiers recruited by King George of England during the Revolutionary War?
Yes, the German mercenaries were the Hessians and they were renowned for both their merciless ferocity in battle and their drinking. One of them was immortalized as the headless horseman in "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow."
Reply:Hessians
Reply:Hessians
Reply:HESSIANS
Reply:WWD is correct about the extent of the German allies. You need to keep in mind that the "Hessians" were not mercenaries. They were under a contract of alliance to England since the time of George 1, a Hanover and a German, or even before his reign. They were British allies, just as the French became our allies in the AWI.
Reply:Not only the Hessians of Revolutionary fame, King George III also had other regiments, generally lumped together simply as "King George's Germans," who played a significant role in the Napoleonic wars as well. Hessians, Braunschweigers, Anspachers, and others fought in America.

There's Persepolis (2007) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0808417/

It's animated, similar to a documentary in that it's based on the life of a real person, and features a girl who "disgraces" her family by loving punk music (though this is a minor plot detail). She's actually Iranian, but moves to France as a child. The movie is in French, with English subtitles.

I am looking for a name of a German wine?

It is in a blue bottle. It has a very sweet flavor. If you have any idea, please post a picture.

I am looking for a name of a German wine?
Don't mean to rain on your parade but the traditional way to make German wines is to make them sweet. The rating system (QMP) is actually ordered by the level of sweetness (well level of ripeness, which is directly related to sweetness)...maybe you remember one of them from the bottle? There's kabinett, spatlese, auslese, beerenauslese, trockenbeerenauslese, and eiswein...those are all off memory so sorry if my spelling is off.
Reply:As far as I know, many German wines are sweet, so that makes answering a bit difficult, however, Schmitt S枚hne produces a line of Rieslings that come in blue bottles. The midget in lederhosen is a little more memorable than a blue bottle though. Links below.
Reply:Auslese wine, which is a varietal of Reisling is probably what you are looking for. Liebfrumilch is dry and fairly cheap, so that's not it.

The other one that is usually in a blue bottle is Voginier - which is French, not German, but very sweet as well.

What was the British royal name before WW1(when they changed it from their german name)?

It's Windsor now, but what WAS it before?

What was the British royal name before WW1(when they changed it from their german name)?
You could say it was Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, they never really used surnames.

The situation of members of the Royal Family is more complex than for most people, as they can be known both by the name of the Royal house, and by a surname, which are not always the same.

Before 1917, members of the British Royal Family had no surname, but only the name of the house or dynasty to which they belonged.

Kings and princes were historically known by the names of the countries over which they and their families ruled. Kings and queens therefore signed themselves by their first names only, a tradition in the United Kingdom which has continued to the present day.

The names of dynasties tended to change when the line of succession was taken by a rival faction within the family (for example, Henry IV and the Lancastrians, Edward IV and the Yorkists, Henry VII and the Tudors), or when succession passed to a different family branch through females (for example, Henry II and the Angevins, James I and the Stuarts, George I and the Hanoverians).

Just as children can take their surnames from their father, so sovereigns normally take the name of their 'House' from their father. For this reason, Queen Victoria's eldest son Edward VII belonged to the House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha (the family name of his father Prince Albert). Edward VII's son George V became the second king of that dynasty when he succeeded to the throne in 1910.

In 1917, there was a radical change, when George V specifically adopted Windsor, not only as the name of the 'House' or dynasty, but also as the surname of his family. The family name was changed as a result of anti-German feeling during the First World War, and the name Windsor was adopted after the Castle of the same name.
Reply:Saxe-Coburg-Gotha was the name of the Royal House. Before that it had been the Royal House of Hanover(Queen Victoria's and her son's,Edward VII's royal house designations).

During World War I,24 twin-engined GOTHA war planes bombed London.George V quickly changed the family name.He wasn't pleased with his German relatives and the rest of England was awash with anti-German sentiment.
Reply:The "House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha" (HSCG), the royal house was the "House of Hanover" from 1714 until the death of Victoira in 1900. Victoria's son, King Edward VII ruled for ten years under HSCG. When his son began the rule, it was under the same name until he changed it.
Reply:It was their House name, so it wasn't quite used like your lastname or mine, but it used to Saxe-Coburg-Gotha.

Cheers!

Trying to find the name of the German sugar packets you can take with a shot of vodka...?

I was at a party with a bunch of Germans and they had these packages of flavored sugar, like Kool-aid or Fun Dip, that you put in your mouth, followed by a shot of vodka and then swished them together. Mine was orange. Does anyone know what these are called or where I can order them online?

Trying to find the name of the German sugar packets you can take with a shot of vodka...?
I guess you are looking for "Ahoj-Brause"?

try this link: http://www.ahoj-brause.de/
Reply:It's "Ahoi-Brause". Drinking it with Vodka is usually called "Vodka-Ahoi". The Brause comes in different flavors (Lemon (yellow), strawberry (red/pink), woodruff (green), and Orange (orange), and can only be baught in combination packages of about, I think, six double sachets. It is really popular in Germany right now as a way to take shots.

It's not only sugar, though. The original use of the "Brause" was for it to be a kind of instant lemonade. It's carbonated, and when you dissolve it in tab water, it creates a carbonated/sparkling drink. IT doesn't taste that good, though, and usually people/kids just put the dry powder in their hand and lick it up, cause the fizzing of the powder is the fun part in eating it. That's what makes it so great for taking it with Vodka, too. Buit careful: YOu can't take more than one or two sachels of it with Vodka, cause it wont dissolve properl while in your mouth and instead does that in your stomach. Not that good if you overdo it!

I'm sorry, even though I researched it, I couldn't find a place where you could order it online.
Reply:Why would you take shots of Vodka? That is really strange you don't want to get drunk on the good stuff! the gods must be crazy!! get drunk on the cheap stuff Vodka is a blessing. It's not a good German tradition is all i can tell you.

Anyone know the name of a German documentary/reality TV show with families living in modern housing?

What is the name of the german dish with ham, chees, fried egg on bread?

The closest spelling I can come up with is - ousjmeiter

What is the name of the german dish with ham, chees, fried egg on bread?
You talk about Strammer Max..

at least thats what we call it in Berlin.

The Dish has Different Names in Different Regions in Germany and the netherlands. The only difference you find besides the name is variation in the Cheese(Gouda in France,Edamer in Holland,Munster in Munsterland etc.)The Bread for the original is always a Dark Bread like Farmers Bread or Vollkorn Bread. The original Strammer Max is a slice of bread fried in butter and covered with ham and fried egg. The ham may also be pan-fried; it is also possible to replace the ham with a slice of roast beef, in which case the dish is sometimes called Strammer Otto. Cheese and tomato are sometimes used, but these are later additions to the original reci

Outside of the Berlin region, the term is also used for several other dishes. Regional variations of the term are not set in stone, and it is not always possible to tell in advance what dish will be served after ordering Strammer Max in a restaurant.

In Bavaria, a Strammer Max is usually a slice of Leberk盲se accompanied by fried egg and potato salad.

In Leipzig, Strammer Max refers to raw steak served with a raw egg

Perhaps it was Wilhelm Furtwangler

"Taking Sides"

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0260414/

Reply:Your comments re.herr Furtwangler are misinformed.

As to the initial question.

Yes 'relaxin' is spot on, on both counts.

I remember that film well.

It was awful.

I absolutely loathed it.

More importantly I must take issue with your statement that Wilhelm Furtwangler belonged to the Nazi party.

This is simply a lie.

Furtw盲ngler resisted Hitler,to him there was no such thing as Nazi Germany, but rather a Germany raped by Nazis.

He was treated as a pawn by the party, who habitually spewed forth false propaganda proclaiming his support.

It was the Party, after refusing to join them and even refusing to salute Adolf at a concert, that made him a Staatsrat (State Councilor) for life, an official-sounding but purely honorary title that Hitler knew he could not legally refuse and which Nazi news releases lost no time picking up on.

In the end he was a virtual prisoner in his own country.
Reply:Big thumbs up for Furtwangler
