What is a good german name?

I'm looking for a good German name for one of my book characters... She's a German Female from WWII period, who's very curious about everything.

What is a good german name?
Be careful; a lot of the answers above either do not contain German girl's names or misspell them!

Why don't you use "Sophie" and honour Sophie Scholl with that choice of name (one of the admirable young members of the White Rose Anti-Nazi resistance group)
Reply:Silvia is believable, too, although probably not that frequent. Report Abuse

Reply:Claudia (pronounced Cloudia), Beate (bay-AH-tuh), Heike (Hike- uh), or Anne (Ah-nna) are all very popular German names.
Reply:mathilde
Reply:Josephine, Anne, Maria, Ingrid, Katerina, just think of any English name and find a german equivalent.
Reply:Hildegaard, Waltraud, Ursula, Silvia, Gertrude, Annaliesa, Waldemar, Claudia, Deitra

male - in case you need any:

Peter, Rudy, Otto, Hansel, Eugene, karl
Reply:Vanderhule, It was a german maid's name. She took care of me a lot as a kid.
Reply:Claudia...a name of a german friend of mine who's also curious about everything
Reply:Helga
Reply:Gretel Schei脽ekekse. (shy-suh-kehk-suh)
Reply:Freida Schikelgruber. ( She might be curious about why her parents failed to change their surname.)
Reply:Helga or Olga. Those are the best German names. Period.

Or you could use something like Marlis, which sounds kinda like a man's name...so maybe not...

I also really like Brigitta or Liesel.

Try looking in a baby book or one of those type websites and search German names. Works for me.
Reply:Brigetta, that was the name of my german nanny when we lived there years ago.
Reply:Helga...can't beat a strong German name like that!
Reply:greta
Reply:I like #94, Gertrude, it's my cat's name.
Reply:www.babynamesworld.com is a great site to find baby names from different origins. Check it out it has a lot of pretty names and it has their meanings too.
Reply:adolph but since its a girl make it adolpha
Reply:Leisl
