How did German Chocolate icing get it's name?
This cake was not actually invented by Germans. The original recipe was sent by a homemaker in Dallas in 1957 to a newspaper in Texas. It used Baker's German's Sweet Chocolate, which was created in 1852 by an Englishman named Sam German for the Baker's Chocolate brand.
Reply:I've heard the story, but I don't remember the details. All I know is it isn't from Germany like the name implies.
Reply:Look it up on the internet stupid
Reply:German Chocolate Cake is a chocolate cake made with German's Sweet Baking Chocolate. The package it comes in had the original recipe for both the cake and the icing on it years ago, so the icing got its name from the recipe. The recipe got its name from the brand of chocolate it was printed on.
