Is it possible to have my green card in my married name and my German passport in my maiden name to enter US?

German laws regarding name change are complciated and changing name and passport takes a long time. I need to travel outside the country and don't want to run into problems coming back in...thanks!

There's no problem whatsoever, believe me. I was in your situation for several years until I became a US citizen last year.

My passport -from my country of origin- had my maiden name in it and my green card had my married name. Nobody ever said anything and I traveled outside of the US many times.

One thing is VERY important: Your airplane ticket must be issued in the name that is in your passport!!.. that is, your maiden name.

That's for airline purposes only.

As for immigration in the US, they have enough information about you on their systems, they know exactly who you are so all they care for is when you left the country the last time. To do that, they will ask you and then they'll check the name on your passport on the system!!.

There's nothing to worry about.. I promise.

Reply:take your marriage certificate with you , just in case. That is what I do and I have never had problems.
Reply:I had my passport changed (in Germany) when I got married and then in LA at the German consulate again after it expired), it doesn't take that long. If you are in the US, you can get a new Euro Card (passport) at the German consulate, they can also explain about traveling with your old passport.
Reply:I think when you come back in the US they really only check your green card, so I don't think it would be a problem. Did you hypenate your name? For example, Jones-Smith, where your passport just says "Jones"? Then I really don't think it'll be a problem. Check with immigration here in the US to make sure.
Reply:contact your local consulate... too easy
Reply:just don't get in front of me in the exit line I'M usually pushed for time
