In Spanish, it's Pedro. In French, it's Pierre. In Italian, Pietro. In Polish, Pyotr. But what is it in German?
Also, suggestions of other German names from around the turn of the last century(1899-1900) would be welcome.
What is the German version of the man's name Peter?
Peter is actually German. It's pronounced differently, though. Where we say Pee-ter, the Germans say Pe-ter.
Hans and Johannes are very popular Germans names, even back then I would think.
Reply:It's Peter, too, it's just pronounced differently. The e's are pronounced like in feather or summer.
Some more German names that were popular around 1900:
Heinz
Paul
Karl
Johann
Helmut
Hans
Wilhelm
Friedrich
Josef
Do you need female names,too?
Elisabeth
Gertrud
Maria
Katharina
Anna
Trude
Margarethe
Adelheit
Reply:Peter.
Hans-peter used to be a common name, too.
Other names would be:
Helmut Siegfried
Rainer Wolfgang
Klaus Fritz
Dittmar Manfred
Otto Wilhelm
Reply:Wikipedia has an article on the name: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_(name...
In German it is simply "Peter".
Reply:Believe it or not its Peter. Just pronounced differently.
Reply:Peter.
