he probably knows his name.. one way to find out. when he's laying down and awake, but being quiet. Say his name. If he looks at you, he knows his name.
Reply:WHOA way way too early for a GSD to have been removed from the litter and mom,,, all reputable breeders don't let their shepherds go til at least 10-12 weeks... offer a treat reward each and every time you say bruno come and he does..... pattern training.

Hiya Hiya!!

Bruno is very much much good name! i like it lots lots! Mommy had to change my name three times before she found one she really liked! It was confusing for me! any time a doggy has to learn a name, it takes a while! but here are some things that mommy used for me:

* every time she said my name i would get a small little treat! I soon learned that when i hear my name it meant treats and happiness!

She did this for about two days!

*One thing that you should never do is say his name when punishing! My grandpa does that, and now i don't always come to him! but can you blame me?

* try and say his name in the same tone of voice! us dogs can pick up on curtain sounds in the name. try to make one of the letters stand out like brunO or brUno! this will help him know when his name is being said!

*Praise when he comes, but ignore when he doesn't, then try again in a few minutes!

if you put all of those things together, and use much reward then he should know his name in less then a week!

Please post some pictures!he sounds very much cute! I'm part German Shepherd too!

Reply:My Shepard learned his name @ around 10 weeks, but I had other people calling him is name. Do a test. have a friend come over and call him. If he comes then he knows his name, is not then keep working.
Reply:when I realized Layla didn't know her name, I just would call her name and if she responded AT ALL like with a twitch of her ears or eye contact then I would give her a treat or praise her. Eventually we worked up to calling her name when she's leaving the room, and giving her a treat and praise. It's worked really well for me.
Reply:it will learn if you say come here (dogs name) instead of just come here it works trust me ive had 5
Reply:it shouldnt take to long just start using his name in commands and if that doesnt work just try speaking up a little more.
Reply:Truth is, it can take forever for a dog to learn its name, if it ever really does. I worked rescue for 4 yrs, and in those 4 yrs, I have rescued over 300 dogs. Most of these dogs are older dogs that must have had a name before, but I don't know what it is, and they can't tell me. I believe that dogs learn more from your tone of voice and your body expressions. Once he learns who you are, and that you are his owner, then things kind of just fall into place. A good trick to help them learn though is to hold a treat, and say their name. When they come towards the treat, just say their name again. Don't say good boy, or come or anything as they may think that there name is come here or good boy.
