How did the German Shepherd Dog get its name?

Hi. I have a speech to write about German Shepherds, and I would really like if you can tell me a bit about german shepherds, and how they got their name. Thanx!

How did the German Shepherd Dog get its name?
The breed was named Deutscher Sch盲ferhund by Von Stephanitz, literally translating to "German Shepherd Dog". The breed was so named due its original purpose of assisting shepherds in herding and protecting sheep.

This will give you a little extra tit bit.

It is also known as an Alsatian. The name was changed in WW2 because many found the word German offensive. It never really stuck though and the breed is known as German Shepherd Dog in the show world and registering bodies.
Reply:Von Stephanitz created the breed to be a highly versatile police and war K9. The Doberman was created in the same timeframe by Louis Dobermann. Both breeds are only a little over 100 yrs old, relative newcomers compared to Rotts and mastiffs.

Reply:How about instead of asking the internet, doing research like a good person. :/ There are plenty of dog sites and resources out there.
Reply:Can't give too much detail, but they originated in Germany as herding dogs for shepherds.
Reply:the dog was breed for herding known as shepherding and it was breed in germany. german-shepherd
Reply:think about it.
