I was just curious to know a little more about my last name.I know that a Baum is some sort of tree but how does that cue into the last name Baumer
What does the german last name Baumer mean?
eehh I don't quite agree with jake. Yes, Baum means tree, but Baumer does not mean "off the trees" I don't think. I don't speak yiddish, that could be why we disagree. But in Hochdeutsch Baumer is just a name, a variation of Baum that has no own meaning.
Reply:Meanings:
- dwelling/habitation/origin: living on a place called ...-baum; like Altbaum, Karsbaum, Oberbirnbaum, Wierzebaum, and so on.
- profession/occupation: working on a toll bar/turnpike (Schlagbaum); to plant fruit trees (Obstbaum)
Reply:Baum is yiddish/german for tree, Baumer means "of the trees"
