How do you pronounce the last name of german philosopher Immanuel Kant in english?

I麓m just curious..

How do you pronounce the last name of german philosopher Immanuel Kant in english?
To rhyme with plant.

Edit:

You know where you can stick your thumbs!

The man said "English".

My evidence:

I rest my case.
Reply:in ENGLISH English, i.e. English spoken in England, and not America, the name would be pronounced:

"Imm-an-yoo-ell" and "Cant" said like in the word "canter".

I'm not saying that's how the name SHOULD be pronounced; I'm saying that's how it WOULD be pronounced - in England.

It would not be pronounced like "kar-nt", or "konn-t". Also, if you mean the standard English accent, then it wouldn't rhyme with the word "plant", because in standard English, plant is prn "plar-nt" not "plan-t". It's only when you head north that it would rhyme with plant.
Reply:Just curious!?!? Nasty boy鈥?:-)

But respect: It's fascinating, really, in which seriously linguistic way such a joke can be presented here!

Dear native speakers 鈥?you will understand if you hear the German pronounciation of the famous philosopher's last name (just replace the first two letters "Ka" by "cu") 鈥?;-)
Reply:Indeed, in the more northern and western parts of Britain, "can't" Kant" and "plant" would all have the same vowel pronunciation.
Reply:Kant sounds like mont but with a k instead of an m.

I have a B.A. degree in Philosophy from UCLA. Kant is pronounced the way I describe, at least in the USA.
Reply:Just like it is. Keh aeh en ti, thats all.
