Ideas of what to name a german shepherd dog (boy) ?
Try to stay in tradition with German names:
Ahren
Alder
Conrad
Derek
Elmo
Franz
Gerard
Gino
Josef
Kellen
Kiefer
Rolf
Warner
Yale
First name is whatever you choose, then very typical is to say where your dog is from. Many times it's of the kennel from which your dog was bred. So like consider you chose Rolf as the first name and your dog was bred from Nyakal kennels. You might name him:
Rolf von Nyakal
Very killer name. Granted your dog would never hear anything but Rolf. But it's also pretty freeform. Maybe I wanna say of my last name.
Rolf von Pomatto
Not as cool but still a very typical naming convention of serious GSD owners/trainers. Female version of von is vom. If your GSD was female you'd say Rolf vom Nyakal.
So you get the drift tho. Just make it sound sweet and try to keep it German.
I also only listed 1 or 2 syllable names cuz it's much easier for the dog to understand. I named one of my GSDs Jupiter (which yes I know is Roman) because he's so huge. Do i call him Jupiter on an everyday basis? No. He knows his name as Jupie. So even if you name your dog over 2 syllables, it doesn't mean you have to call him that right? You can call him an abbreviated form of it.
Also as an idea, I always name my pets as mythical gods. Gods are very descriptive of characterics and every ethnicity has em. Kinda a neat way to do it.
Peace and have fun looking for names. Super fun part of gettin a GSD
