I have recently discovered a German ancestor with the name of Johaime or Johaine. She was a woman who lived in the 1800's. What is the English equivalant of this name?
What is the meaning of the German first name Johaime or Johaine? It was for a woman.?
Her name was most probably "Johanna" That is the female form of the name "Johannes" and would be the equivalent of "Joan(n)a" in English.
Reply:I have never heard of this name and could not find it anywhere online, but it could be a form of Johanna which means God is gracious.
There is a boys name: Joachim which means Whom God Exalts.
