How do you pronounce the German name "Bloess"?

It's a last name

How do you pronounce the German name "Bloess"?
Blow-SS.
Reply:It is almost pronounced as "Bless" - it's a slightly different sound that English really doesn't have, however, so the "oe" is about as close as you're going to come in print. I was taught in German to say it by FORMING an "e" with the mouth, but SAYING an "o" - it's crude but you'll get the idea.
Reply:the Umlaut oe (also written like 枚) is not existing in english, BUT the SOUND is, at least similarly!

Try saying fur, murder, lurk, turd etc. The "ur" sounds a bit like the german 枚. Of course there is no american "r" involved, it is only a vowel. But the sound goes in that direction.
Reply:like the person above said.. oe is like o with two dots over it.. so you say that kindof like err.. so it's

Bl-er-ss
Reply:I'm not sure, I dont think I'm right, but this is my theory.

Bloess is just like Bl枚ss. I think 'oe' is like '枚'
Reply:hi
